L is for Ladybug

~Punkin is 27 months old.~

Well, this week I still didn't feel 100%, and Punkin came down with a nasty cold. So needless to say, neither of us were in great moods for much "formal learning." But we managed to get a few things done...

TOT TRAYS

Ladybug file folder game. (I got a whole box of file folder games this summer at at garage sale for $2!)
Pom Pom magnet page from COAH. (Don't know why this is sideways. I can't get it to turn for the life of me!)

Hi Ho Cherri-o

Chinese Checkers

I found this mini bowling set at Dollar Tree a few weeks ago. She loved it!

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

More Kumon pages

Tracing our letter Ll.

This was an activity that we didn't get done last week that I wanted her to do, so we did it on Monday. This was the first time I've had her match pictures (beginning sounds) to letters. She did pretty good for her first try.

Ladybug size order from COAH. I only gave her 4 at a time, though, instead of all the ladybugs. She did great with just the four. We did it big to small, then small to big. Then, I got out 4 different ladybugs and we did it again.

Our letter Ll collage page for our abc binder. She loves doing these.

I had her do this lowercase abc assessment page from Making Learning Fun. I called out a letter and she had to find the ladybug with that letter on it and stamp it. She did awesome as always with this. The only problem we found was that there were two letter f and no d.

Punkin really enjoyed this. I printed out these number words pages from Making Learning Fun. She looked at the letters of the word, and found the scrabble tiles to match. (This time, the letters were not in the boxes, the word is just written under the number.....it's hard to see in the picture. She did great still spelling the word in order without the letters in the boxes themselves.) Then, she counted out that many beads to put on the ladybugs as spots.

Finding all the letter Ll's on the page.

Counting magnetic pom poms onto ladybug sheets from Making Learning Fun. I wanted her to use tweezers or tongs to do it, but she wanted nothing to do with that.

Punkin picked a number out of a basket, then counted that many beads (spots) onto the ladybugs. (Can you tell we were working a lot on counting out a specific number this week versus just counting a set number of objects already in front of her?)

This patterning necklace activity was a huge hit, and the biggest accomplishment of the week. I made the little ladybug pendant beforehand (see directions HERE), and then had her lace beads onto each side in a pattern. This type of lacing has always been hard for her, but this week, she just....did it! Like she'd been doing it forever as an old pro. I was shocked. She even did the pattern on her own without my help (once I explained what I wanted her to do).

Ladybug graph book. She counted the number on each page and then stamped that many boxes. The pages say childcareland.com on them, but for some reason, I can't find them on the site now. I had printed them awhile back.

Matching shapes clip cards. The matching part is super easy for her, but we are still working on getting the hang of the fine motor skill of using the clothespin clip. Once again, I got these from Making Learning Fun. (That's one of my "go to" sites when I need stuff quick and easy.)

I printed out this sheet from Making Learning Fun and then cut some red circle stickers in half for her to make the wings. I had to really guide her where to put the wings, but it was great fine motor work for her to get those little stickers off the page and then off her finger onto the paper.

CRAFTS

Punkin enjoyed making this little ladybug out of ovals. Then, I had her use an unused pencil eraser to dip in black paint and make the spots. Then, she used the marker to draw six legs and 2 antennae.

We made a ladybug finger puppet that I saw on Making Learning Fun. Punkin painted a toilet paper tube that I cut in half and we let that dry.

Then, she helped me use a paper hole punch to punch out black spots and glue them on, as well as googly eyes and antennae.

MISC. FUN

I found this fun idea somewhere last week, but I forgot to document where, so let me know if it was on your blog so I can give you credit. Anyway, I printed out shapes on ladybugs and set them around on her floor. Then, I played some upbeat music and had her dance to it. When I stopped the music, I'd call out a shape, and she had to stop dancing and find the shape. I made it a bit more interesting at the last minute by having her throw it into her crib, which she thought was so much fun. She really got into this and was tired by the end!

Once again, don't know why Blogger is deciding to rotate some of my pictures...sigh. Anyway, she still loves playdough. She was making little balls to put on the sheet to make ladybugs.

And she spent a lot of time this week doing puzzles.

Well, that was our week. Hopefully we'll all be much more into doing tot school next week....but then again, along comes Thanksgiving, so who knows. To see what other tots were up to this past week, check out 1+1+1=1.

L IS FOR LEAF

~Punkin is 27 months old.~

I didn't get near as much done as I had hoped and planned. I wasn't feeling great this week, which made it tough for me to have energy to do everything I wanted to with Punkin. Plus, Daddy was off on Veteran's Day and we just had fun being with him that day. Saturday was a huge football playoff game for Daddy's high school where he's the athletic director, so that day was kinda shot, too. Anyway, this is gonna be pretty basic without a lot of descriptions because I am still not feeling great......

Helping me act out our "Leaves are Falling" song. Punkin still loves to sing and do her songs every morning during calendar time.

TOT TRAYS

I moved the time of when we do tot trays this week, and that seemed to help a lot. Punkin really enjoyed all the trays this week!

Driving her cars on shape roads. I got this idea from Snails and Puppy Dog Tails.

Plain old stickers.

Flipping "pancakes" with a spatula. This idea came from Barefoot in Suburbia.

Do a Dot leaves

Pouring yellow macaroni back and forth.

Investigating our mini yellow sensory bin.

This time she attempted to somewhat sort them on her own by like items.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

We finished up a few pumpkin things on Monday when I didn't feel like preparing anything new. This pumpkin number order is the only one I took a picture of.

Working again on curves in our Kumon book. This week she did better making "rainbows."

Leaf matching game from Prekinders.

Letter Building with letter Ll.

Setting tiles along capital and lowercase Ll.

Capital and lowercase Ll leaf sort. You can download it HERE.

Lacing lowercase leaf letters in abc order. (I only put out 5 or so at a time.) I printed them from HERE.

Working on cutting apart leaf pictures. I let her try holding the paper herself this week. As long as I guided her where to cut, she did okay.

Then Punkin glued the cut apart leaves onto a tree and onto our Ll letters.

I wrote the first letter of the colors in that color on the circles on the tree, and she put the pom poms on the right color. She loved this. I had it set out the rest of the week on her toy box and she went to it quite a bit during the week.

Stamping the number 5.

Counting 5 leaves on each tree. She had to match the colors as well.

Gluing 5 leaves on her number 5 cutout.

And counting them in order over and over. We also used this big cutout to practice tracing the number. "Make a hat, then take a dive. Give a tummy to Mr. Five."

Picking leaves out of a cup and making a graph.

CRAFTS / ART

Punkin made these leaf prints with a toilet paper tube that was smooshed into the shape of a leaf. This idea came from Life with My Giggle Girls.

She found out that when she pulled up the tube each time, it made a bubble in the paint, so she had more fun popping the bubbles with her fingers than she did actually painting.

We had lots of paint left over, so I let her just paint with a paintbrush. She started off making very pretty blobs on her paper that kinda looked like leaves. Then, she smeared them all together and painted her whole paper.

We made a leaf collage with real leaves that we picked up at the park one day.

Punkin also had fun making this leaf wreath and putting glitter glue on it. Got the idea from HERE.

MISC. STUFF

The weather was gorgeous this week, so a couple days we went outside to play. One day, we used duct tape to make a bracelet for her stick her leaves on that she found. I got this idea from I Can Teach My Child.

We also had a McDonald's picnic in our yard one day for lunch as we enjoyed the warm weather.
